ART QUILTS: Not Your Grandmother's Quilt Show

  • California Heritage Museum 2612 Main Street Santa Monica, CA 90405 USA (map)

ART QUILTS was a juried exhibition featuring artwork spotlighting the best contemporary artists that work with fabric.

The show was juried by D. J. Hall and Bradford J. Salamon, both are exceptional California painters who have had one-person exhibitions at the California Heritage Museum. D. J. Hall became well known for her ladies that brunch by the poolsidepaintings. Currently, her work features nature and her continuing relationship with light. Bradford J. Salamon is noted for his portraits of family, fellow artists and curators. Since 2011, his portraits include those of toy cars, old radios, rockets and other familiar objects. Juror Tobi Smith has curated and produced exhibitions for more than thirty years.

Rarely unanimous, the selection of 64 quilts from over 300 outstanding entries reflects the diverse artistic tastes of its three jurors.

The Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) was founded in 1989 as a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation and publications.

The exhibition closed on March 18, 2018. The show then travelled to Carnegie Arts Center located in Turlock, California where it will open on April 4 and continue through May 27, 2018.
